David A. Burt

Mr. Burt graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1975.  He is admitted to practice before the courts of the State of Florida, the State of Virginia, United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. 

He was formerly Executive Vice President, Treasurer and General Counsel of Ormond Reinsurance Group and operational head of all crop insurance operations, including American Hail Insurance Company, which wrote only multiple peril crop insurance and crop hail insurance throughout the United States. American Hail Insurance Company was one of the first Reinsured Companies for the Federal Crop Insurance program.

Mr. Burt returned to the private practice of law in 1992, forming the firm of Hawkins, Hawkins & Burt in 1994 and began representing various crop producers around the State of Florida.  

He was instrumental in the establishment of the Florida Agricultural Mediation Service through the University of Florida, IFAS, in 1996, and was the first Program Mediator.  He has lectured on the subject of Agricultural Mediations at seminars sponsored by the Agriculture Law Committee of the General Practice Section of the Florida Bar. 

Mr. Burt has lectured on Crop Insurance Basics at the University Of Florida Levin College Of Law.

Mr. Burt is currently a Member of the Board of Directors of Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach.  He has also served as a Member of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Memorial Health Systems and as Chairman of the Memorial Hospital Systems Foundation.

Mr. Burt is also a past Member and former Vice Chairman of the District Board of Trustees of Daytona Beach Community College (now Daytona State College).

He is the author of The First Step . . .,relating to Reinsurance mediation, ReActions Magazine, January, 1994.

Mr. Burt limits his practice to matters related to:
