David A. Burt
For over 30 years, Mr. Burt has represented Estates and Trusts as well as Personal Representatives and Trustees throughout Florida. He has represented heirs and creditors, children and surviving spouses, in routine administration and in litigation. His knowledge and experience have helped his clients resolve difficult situations.
He has also prepared hundreds of simple and complex estate plans – wills and trusts – so that the client’s wishes can be realized in the best manner possible.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Burt began his legal career at the Daytona Beach office of Landis, Graham, French, Husfeld, Sherman, and Ford. He then joined the Ormond Reinsurance Group, where he became Vice President, Treasurer, and General Counsel. He also served as the operational head of all crop insurance operations for the company, including the American Hail Insurance Company, which specialized in multiple peril crop insurance and crop hail insurance across the United States.
Mr. Burt returned to private law practice in 1992. He, along with Donald E. Hawkins and Alfred E. Hawkins, formed the firm of Hawkins, Hawkins & Burt in 1994. After the retirement of Alfred E. Hawkins in 1998 and the retirement of Donald E. Hawkins at the end of 2025, Mr. Burt reformed the firm under the name of Hawkins & Burt, PLLC.

Civic Involvement:
Mr. Burt is a former member of the Board of Directors for AdventHealth Daytona Beach and its predecessor hospitals, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center and Memorial Health Systems where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He is a past member and former Vice Chairman of the District Board of Trustees of Daytona Beach Community College, now known as Daytona State College.
