Hawkins & Burt PLLC is a small, long established civil law firm whose predecessor began in Alabama in 1906 with Judge Alpha Emmett Hawkins, who presided over the famous “Scottsboro case”. His son, Alfred E. Hawkins, after working for his father, moved to Florida in 1946 and began his practice in Daytona Beach.
Donald E. Hawkins joined his father and began his practice in 1971 under the name of Hawkins & Hawkins. David A. Burt joined the firm in 1994 and the firm became Hawkins, Hawkins & Burt, LLP. Alfred E. Hawkins retired in 1998, and Donald E. Hawkins retired at the end of 2025. David Burt continues the firm under the current name, Hawkins & Burt, PLLC.
If you need a comprehensive estate plan, or if you want to change your current estate plan, or if you have been named as a Personal Representative or Trustee, or if you believe a will or trust is unfair or invalid, the most important step you can take is to speak with an experienced attorney as soon as possible.
Choosing the Right Attorney
Probate and trust matters are highly specialized. It is important to choose an attorney with substantial experience in these areas, not one who only handles them occasionally alongside unrelated practice areas.
Hawkins & Burt represents:
- Clients in need of new or revised estate plans.
- Personal Representatives and Trustees carrying out their duties
- Beneficiaries and heirs protecting their rights
- Clients involved in will and trust litigation
